UCO Takes On Southern Stampede

JOPLIN, Mo. – Central Oklahoma is ready to get back on the race course this weekend, with the Bronchos taking on the field at the annual Southern Stampede, hosted by Missouri Southern.

UCO is competing in 1 of 10 races scheduled for Saturday morning. The Bronchos will race in the 8:30 a.m. Women's 5k University/Open division.

Central Oklahoma is sending nine Bronchos to Joplin for the race, which will be a 5k track around Tom Rutledge Course. Of that group, seven of them competed in the season-opening 3-mile race in Hutchinson, Kansas two weeks ago.

True freshman Korie Kizarr led Central with a 15th-place individual finish, crossing the line in 19:13. Gracie Sanders and Shiloh Hutchinson also logged Top 50 performances. Sanders finished 34th at 20:07 and Hutchinson came in 49th at 20:34.

Giselle Zavaleta also earned a 58th-place finish with her 3-mile time of 20:58.

Seydi Blount (21:20), Noel Buckhaults (22:44) and Kylee Smith (23:36) also competed in Hutchinson, Kansas two weeks ago.

All of those seven will be racing Saturday morning.

Eden Haack and Katie McCathern will join the group this week as well. Haack is a true freshman from Oklahoma City. McCathern is a third-year sophomore from Texas. She arrived at UCO in 2020 when the season was cancelled. Last Fall, she competed in three races. Her lone 5k was at Fort Hays State and she posted a 21:22 time there.

Saturday is the second race of the year for the Bronchos, who will compete in Arkansas in two weeks. UCO has just one event on the calendar in October and that is the Broncho Classic at Lake Arcadia.
