Korie Kizarr's Top 20 Paces Bronchos In Opener

UCO Finishes Seventh In 2022 Season Opener In Kansas

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The University of Central Oklahoma cross country team opened the 2022 season Thursday night with a seventh-place finish in the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic.

UCO entered seven runners in the three-mile race.

Korie Kizarr, competing in her first collegiate race, took a 15th-place finish with a time of 19:13.66 to pace the Bronchos. Grace Sanders, also competing in her first collegiate race, finished 34th overall with a time of 20:07.39.

Shiloh Hutchinson, UCO's lone returner competing in the opener, finished 49th overall with a time of 20:34.46. A pair of transfers, Giselle Zavaleta and Seydi Blount, both former Southwestern Oklahoma State runners, finished 58th and 70th respectively. Zavaleta posted a 20:58.25 and Blount scored a 21:20.11 in the race.

Noelle Buckhaults and Kylee Smith also ran for the Bronchos. Buckhaults, who competed at Hutchinson for her first two years of college, ran a 22:44.96 for a 99th-place finish. Smith, a true freshman, posted a 23:36.71 time.

Central Oklahoma's season is underway. The Bronchos will have two weeks to prepare for the next race with Missouri Southern State's annual Southern Stampede scheduled for Sept. 17 in Joplin. UCO is hosting the Broncho Classic Oct. 15 at Lake Arcadia.
