Robbie Rea Joins Baseball Staff

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma head baseball coach John Martin announced the addition of Robbie Rea to his staff as pitching coach.

Rea comes to UCO from Newman, where he spent the last three seasons working with the MIAA school in the same role.

"I'm glad to have Robbie joining the team," Martin said. "He's a good coach and brings a lot of valuable experience with him. We're looking forward to working with our pitching staff and him helping us out."

Rea, originally from Topeka, Kansas, played high school baseball at Seaman High and was a three-time state champion. He was named Kansas State Player of the Year his junior year and Pitcher of the Year his senior season.

Rea began his college career at Cowley County in Arkansas City, Kansas, earning All-American honors there. He left junior college and earned All-Big 12 honors pitching for Oklahoma State.

Rea began his coaching career at Cowley, leading the team to a Jayhawk East title and coaching player- and pitcher of the year award winners.

From Cowley, Rea moved to Northeastern State from 2015-17 and coached 14 All-MIAA selections during that span. He spent 2017-18 at Abilene Christian before moving Grayson College in Denison, Texas.

Rea arrived in Newman in 2019 and coached seven All-MIAA selections there.

Rea comes to Central Oklahoma inheriting a team that has been one of the better defensive units in the country under Martin's leadership. UCO owns the Division II record for fielding percentage in a single season (set in 2018). The Bronchos, which have had four pitchers drafted or sign undrafted free agent contracts in the last five years, are regularly among the strikeout leaders in the MIAA.
