Patterson, Takamatsu Named All-Region

Central Oklahoma had a pair of baseball players earn All-Region honors last week from two outlets with Kyler Patterson and Garrett Takamatsu claiming the postseason awards.

Patterson was named First Team All-Region by both the Conference Commissioners Association and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Takamatsu was a Second Team selection by the D2CCA.

The duo, who both wrapped up their UCO careers this Spring leading the Bronchos to the MIAA Baseball Championship First Round with a 29-21 record, are the 41st and 42nd All-Region selections for Central Oklahoma.

"I'm proud of both of those guys and they are both very deserving," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "They were so good for us this year. They helped us in more ways than one, both on and off the field. It's great that they are being honored for their hard work."

Patterson as a First Team All-Region selection moves on to the All-American ballots for both outlets.

This season, the right-handed relief pitcher from Cushing, Oklahoma set a new UCO single season record for low earned run average. He threw 44 1/3 innings, allowing only eight runs all year and just six of those were earned. The 1.22 ERA was almost half the previous record of 2.14.

Patterson also struck out 68 batters in just 44 1/3 innings of work. His 13.9 strikeouts per nine innings was among the best in the country.

Takamatsu played a few different positions around the Broncho infield this season. He spent the most time at second base but also played several games at first and third. The Burlington, Ontario, Canada native was second on the team with a .328 batting average this season. He produced 63 hits in 50 games played this season – all starts – and led the team with 64 RBIs.

Takamatsu also had a team-high 18 home runs, which ranks sixth on Central's all-time single season list. He had 12 doubles, one triple, and scored a team-high 52 runs.

Central Oklahoma posted a 29-21 record in 2022. The Bronchos earned the No. 4 seed in the MIAA Baseball Championship. Both Patterson and Takamatsu were First Team All-MIAA selections.
