UCO Ready For NCAA Central Regional

The Central Oklahoma women's golf team will be looking to extend their season this week when the Bronchos go to Hot Springs, Ark. for the NCAA Division II Central Regional Tournament.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament runs Monday-Wednesday at the 5,932-yard, par-72 Hot Springs Country Club and UCO is one of nine teams in the field. Also competing will be Rogers State, Northeastern State, Henderson State, Arkansas Tech, Augustana, Central Missouri, Nebraska-Kearney and Southwestern Oklahoma.

The top three teams along with the first two individuals not on one of those teams will advance to the Championship Finals, set for May 10-14 at Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville, Ga. Three other regional tournaments are being held around the country this week.

"We're excited about the opportunity in front of us," head coach Michael Bond said. "This is what we've worked for all year and the girls are looking forward to it. I think we've got a great chance to move on if we play to our capabilities."

It's the 10th straight regional appearance for the Bronchos, who are looking to advance to the Championship Finals for the first time since 2015.

Central has enjoyed a banner 2021-22 season, having placed in the top-four in eight of 10 tournaments with two wins. The Bronchos came in third at the MIAA Championships two weeks ago.

Making up UCO's five-player contingent is senior Kinsley Hall, juniors Madison O'Dell and Taylor Towers and sophomores Susana Olivares and Mika Ramos.

Olivares has been a consistent force all season with top-10 finishes in eight of 10 events with one win. She carries a 74.0 scoring average for the season and was runner-up in the league tournament.

Ramos has a 78.5 average, while Hall is at 78.6, O'Dell 78.9 and Towers 79.3.

Hall has been in the top 20 in five of the seven tournaments she's played in this season, including a tie for ninth at the MIAA tourney. O'Dell has five top-25 showings in nine tournaments and shared ninth place with Hall in the conference meet.

Ramos has four top-20 finishes in nine tournaments and Towers has placed in the top 25 in three of her four events.
