UCO Wins Fourth Straight MIAA Match To Start Season, Third Straight Shutout

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – No. 5 Central Oklahoma is off to a 4-0 start in conference play following another shutout victory on Saturday.
 
UCO beat Missouri Western 7-0 in St. Joe to improve to 11-1 overall this season and 4-0 in MIAA competition.
 
"With only one match this week we wanted to make sure we played well and we did," UCO head tennis coach Joe Vann said. "We played well and played well early. We didn't let up. Today was a good day of tennis for us."
 
Mae Canete and Christine Canete, making up the No. 2 doubles team in the country, picked up a 6-0 win at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. Moments later, Adel-Byanu Abidullina and Tizia Brocks earned a 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot in the lineup to clinch the doubles point.
 
Mae was the first to finish in singles, winning 6-0, 6-1 at the top position. The No. 2 rated singles player in the country improved to 9-2 this season with the win.
 
Abidullina wasn't far behind. She kept her unbeaten spring season in tact with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles to improve to 10-0 this season and give Central Oklahoma a 3-0 lead in the match.
 
Brocks then clinched the win for UCO. She won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5 singles to give Central Oklahoma the deciding fourth point in the match.
 
Grace Chadick also won 6-4, 7-5 at No. 4 singles and Christine won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles to make it 6-0, UCO.
 
Blythe Buntrock won her first set at No. 6 singles, 6-1, but suffered a 6-4 setback in the second set. She responded though and won the tiebreaker third set 10-7 to give UCO the 7-0 shutout.
 
Central Oklahoma is 4-0 in league play following Saturday's win. The Bronchos have won all four a combined 27-1.
 
The Bronchos are scheduled to host Fort Hays State and Nebraska Kearney next week in Edmond. After the two MIAA matches, Central Oklahoma will travel to Angelo State next Saturday for a third match in as many days.
