Hanson, Lyday, Lead Bronchos

WICHITA, Kan. – Central Oklahoma competed in a pair of track meets this weekend with nine Bronchos taking on the annual KT Woodman Classic at Wichita State and four more taking on the annual David Suenram Gorilla Classic at Pittsburg State.

A quartet of distance runners opened the weekend bonanza Friday night at Wichita State and senior Harlie Hanson added another pillar to her legacy at Central Oklahoma. The Mutual, Oklahoma native took part in the daunting 10,000 meters and she earned a fourth-place finish in the event of 22 runners. Hanson also set a new school record with her finish. She crossed the finish line in 37 minutes, 13 seconds, breaking a Annette Bieber's record she set at Central State in 1981.

The 10,000-meter record is the fourth school record Hanson has set in her third year a Central Oklahoma. She also owns the 3,000- and 5,000-meter records in Indoor, as well as the 5,000- and now 10,000-meter records in Outdoor.

Arizona Hummingbird, Shiloh Hutchinson and Bethany Garrison all ran in the 5,000 meters. Hummingbird took 32nd with a time of 19:19.44, Hutchinson finished 41st at 20:08.49, and Garrison finished 46th with a time of 20:40.90.

One jumper, Jordan Chancellor, arrived on Saturday and she finished 21st in the triple jump with a new personal best 10.46 meters. The freshman from Verdigris, Oklahoma has hit 10.32, 10.15, and 10.46 in her first three career Outdoor meets.

Five Central sprinters also showed up on Saturday with Chancellor and fellow freshman Ansley Scott led the way. She finished 13th in the 200 meters with a time of 25.01 seconds. That set a new personal best for the Oklahoma City native. Scott also finished 17th in her collegiate debut in the 100 meters with a time of 12.03 seconds.

Kaleigh Dyas finished 16th in the 200 right on the heels of Scott. Dyas clocked a new personal best 25.24-second time. She also finished 22nd in the 100 with another personal best of 12.11 seconds.

Jasmine Hopkins also ran on Saturday. She finished 43rd in the 100 (12.54) and 46th in the 200 (26.38). Lydia Lawrence finished 64th in the 100 (13.17) and 75th in the 200 (28.13). Mya Audette finished 77th in the 200 (28.34) and 46th in the 400 (1:10.18).

Four throwers made the trip to Kansas, albeit the southeastern corner of the state, for the Gorilla Classic at Pittsburg State and this quartet was led by Dahsauni Lyday.

She finished second in the shot put (13.71m) and fourth in the discus (40.64m). Lyday made it three top 10s with an eighth-place finish in the hammer throw (44.02m).

Eve Brennan finished ninth in the discus (37.99m) and 15th in the hammer (38.94m). Kayla South finished 17th in two events. She threw 37.32 meters in the hammer and 29.79 meters in the javelin. Tatum Robertson joined Lyday in the shot put and finished 12th with a 11.12-meter throw.
