UCO Moves Into Second At League Tourney

NEWTON, Kan. (April 22) – Kinsley Hall handled brutal scoring conditions better than the majority of the field to pace Central Oklahoma in second-day play at the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Women's Golf Championships Friday.

Hall's two-over-par 74 was the second-low score of the day as 30-40 mile per hour winds with gusts to 50 wreaked havoc on players at the 5,960-yard, par-72 Sand Creek Station Golf Course. The Bronchos shot a 317, five shots higher than the first round, and still moved from fourth to tied for second in the standings.

Nebraska-Kearney continues to lead the 11-team tournament with a 614 total. UCO and Central Missouri are tied for second at 629, with Rogers State fourth at 633. Final-round play begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

Hall was one of just 13 players in the 55-player field to break 80 on a day when the scoring average was 83.4. Susana Olivares came in with an 80 for the Bronchos, while Madison O'Dell shot 81, Mika Ramos 82 and Taylor Towers 85.

"Kinsley had just a phenomenal round today with how hard the course was playing," head coach Michael Bond said. "The wind was just relentless and it affected every asset of the game. We hung in there as best we could and now we'll see what we can do tomorrow."

Olivares, who fired a two-under-par 70 in Thursday's first round, stayed atop the individual standing at 150 in her bid for a second straight league title and Hall jumped all the way into a tie for seventh at 155.

Hall started her day with four straight pars, then made two bogeys in a three-hole stretch in finishing with a two-over 38 on the front nine. The senior dropped to four-over with a double bogey on No. 10, birdied the par-4 12th and bogeyed No. 13 to remain four-over.

Hall hit the biggest shot of her day on No. 15 as she drove the 280-yard par-4 and then holed the eight-foot eagle putt to get back to two-over. Three consecutive pars closed out a back-nine 36 for the brilliant 74.

Olivares got off to a tough start with back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 1 and 2 before getting a stroke back with a birdie on the par-5 fourth. She made three straight bogeys in making the turn at 39, then had a couple of double bogeys on the back nine in coming in with a 41.
