Kelsey Johnson Named WBCA All-American

LILBURN, Ga. – Kelsey Johnson is an All-American.

The WBCA announced Wednesday its annual postseason awards honoring the best players in the country and Johnson, who recently wrapped up a record-setting career at Central Oklahoma, was named among them.

"Kelsey is so deserving of this," UCO head women's basketball coach Guy Hardaker said. "We're so proud of her and all she accomplished here at UCO and I'm glad she can add this to the list. She deserves it."

Johnson's list of accomplishments is extensive. After transferring from UT-Arlington before her junior season, Johnson spent the next three seasons at Central rewriting the Broncho record books. She had two senior seasons due to the pandemic and the NCAA allowing an extra year of competition. Still in three years of playing on the hardwood in Bronze & Blue, Johnson accomplished what most couldn't in four seasons.

At Central Oklahoma, she is No. 3 on the all-time scoring list, No. 4 on the all-time blocks list, and No. 5 on the all-time rebounding list. Add No. 2 on the all-time field-goals made and No. 5 on the all-time field-goals attempted, as well as No. 4 on the all-time free-throws made list.

She set a single season record for field-goal percentage as a junior and almost beat her own record this season. She is the only player in the school history to shoot 60 percent for an entire season and she did it twice.

Johnson was the focal point of the offense for the last three seasons at Central, and rightfully so. She improved in each of her three seasons with the Bronchos and did so enough to garner All-American honors this winter.

This season, Johnson was again setting records.

She scored more points (651) this season than any other player in any single season in school history. She averaged more (21.3) as well. Her 60.0 percent field-goal mark is the second-best of any player in one season in school history.

Her 288 rebounds this season are the third-most in one season in school history. Her 255 field-goals made are the second-most in one season in school history. Her 425 field-goals attempted are the fifth-most in one season in school history. Her 131 free-throws made are the eighth-most in one season in school history.

She set another pair of records this season, one for the season and one for a career mark. Johnson scored 30 points or more in a single game eight times during her career with the Bronchos. No other player did it three times. She also set a single season record, scoring 30 or more in a game five times this season.

Johnson also earned the MIAA Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week award four times this season before earning First Team All-MIAA at the end of the year. She was a Second Team All-Region selection by the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association.

Johnson was also named a CoSIDA Academic All-American earlier this month.
