UCO Sixth In Texas Tourney

TROPHY CLUB, Texas (March 21) – Kyle Hickey and Bennett Baldwin had sizzling second-round surges interrupted by severe weather Monday afternoon, leaving Central Oklahoma in sixth place at the Lion Invitational.

The Bronchos opened with a morning 296 and were at plus-15 for the tournament after 13 holes in the afternoon before a tornado warning halted play. Arkansas Tech leads the 18-team event at minus-four, with Southwestern Oklahoma and Cameron tied for second at plus-10.

Play will resume at 8 a.m. Tuesday for the completion of the second round, with the third and final round to follow.

Hickey was three-under-par and Baldwin two-under after each had completed 13 holes in their second round, leaving both in the top 10 of the individual standings. Baldwin was fourth at minus-two, while Hickey was tied for ninth at plus-one.

Baldwin shot even-par 72 in the morning and was one-over through four holes in the second round before making an eagle on a par-5 to get to one-under. He dropped back to even with a bogey, then birdied his last two holes of the day.

Hickey opened with a 76 before getting things going in the afternoon. He birdied his second hole of the round, followed six straight pars with back-to-back birdies to get to three-under and then made three consecutive pars before play was halted.

Evan Griffith shot 72 in the morning, while Ross Taylor had a 76 and Caleb Kimmel a 78.
