Bronchos Head To Texas

The Central Oklahoma men's golf continues its spring schedule Monday and Tuesday when the Bronchos go to Trophy Club, Texas for the Lion Invitational hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce.

Thirty-six holes are on tap Monday, followed by a final 18 holes Tuesday at the 6,992-yard, par-72 Whitworth Course at Trophy Club Country Club.

Joining UCO and the host Lions in the 18-team event is Midwestern State, Central Missouri, Dallas Baptist, Colorado School of Mines, Colorado-Colorado Springs, Lubbock Christian, West Texas A&M, Arkansas-Fort Smith, Western New Mexico, Southwestern Oklahoma, Lincoln, Washburn, Cameron, Missouri Western, Colorado Mesa and Arkansas Tech.

Making up Central's five-man squad will be juniors Kyle Hickey and Evan Griffith, sophomores Caleb Kimmel and Ross Taylor and freshman Bennett Baldwin.

"We haven't played like we're capable of in the last two tournaments and are looking to turn that around this week," head coach Derrick Thompson said. "Our guys have been working hard and I'm excited to see how we do in what will be a really tough tournament."

The Bronchos have placed in the top four in three of their eight tournaments this year. Five of those events were in the fall and this will the fourth tournament of the spring campaign.

Griffith's 73.59 scoring average leads the team, with Kimmel not far behind at 73.91. Both have finished in the top-25 in five of eight events.

Hickey carries a 75.27 average with three top-25s in six tournaments. Baldwin is a 75.68 and Taylor 76.0, with each having one top-25 showing this year.

UCO has just one more regular-season tournament after this, going to Warrensburg, Mo. April 4-5 for The Mule. The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Championships are set for April 18-20.
