Bronchos Sixth In Oak Tree Tourney

EDMOND (March 14) – Kyle Hickey had a pair of steady rounds to lead Central Oklahoma in first-day play at the Oak Tree Invitational Monday.

The Bronchos are sixth in the team standings with a 595 total after shooting 302-293 at the 7,126-yard, par-70 East Course. Host Oklahoma Christian leads the 14-team tourney at 573, nine shots ahead of Henderson State heading into Tuesday's final round.

Hickey is tied for 10th in the individual standings after shooting 73-72 for a five-over 145 total. Caleb Kimmel had rounds of 75-74, while Ross Taylor shot 77-73, Evan Griffith 77-74 and Liam Coughlin 79-77. Bennett Baldwin was at 149 (75-74) competing as an individual medalist.

"We got off to a really tough start, but battled back," head coach Derrick Thompson said. "I'm proud of the way the guys finished and we're looking to finish strong tomorrow."

Hickey started his afternoon round on No. 15 and was two-over after four holes before playing the final 14 holes at even-par. He had 12 pars along with a birdie on the par-4 seventh hole and a bogey on the par-4 ninth.
