UCO Set For Oak Tree Tourney

The Central Oklahoma men's golf team is back in action this week with a local event as the Bronchos are set to compete in the Oak Tree Invitational in Edmond.

Oklahoma Christian is hosting the two-day, 54-hole event. Thirty-six holes are slated Monday at the 7,126-yard, par-70 Oak Tree East Course and 18 on the final day.

"We didn't play very well last week and are looking to get back on track," said head coach Derrick Thompson, whose team finished 10th in the Bronchos Invitational last week. "It's a course we're familiar with and I know our guys want to redeem themselves."

Making up Central's five-man squad is juniors Evan Griffith and Kyle Hickey, sophomores Caleb Kimmel and Ross Taylor and freshman Liam Coughlin. Rookie Bennett Baldwin will compete as an individual medalist.

Griffith tops the team with a 73.32 scoring average, while Kimmel is right behind at 73.79. Griffith has five top-25 finishes in UCO's seven tournaments this year and Kimmel has four, including a 16th-place showing last week.

Coughlin carries a 75.5 average with top-25 placings in two of the six events he's played. Hickey (75.67) had a win and second-place finish in back-to-back tournaments last fall and Taylor (76.2) is coming off a team-best sixth-place effort last week.
