No. 3 Central Oklahoma Crushes SOSU

DURANT, Okla. – The University of Central Oklahoma tennis team cruised to a 7-0 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State Thursday in a non-conference dual.

Central Oklahoma remained No. 3 in the country in the latest ITA national rankings announced earlier Thursday. The Bronchos didn't face much resistance from its longtime foe.

"We've been off for more than a week following ITA nationals and this was a good way to get back into our routine," UCO head tennis coach Joe Vann said. "We played well today and for our first outdoor match of the season it went pretty good."

Mae Canete and Christine Canete picked up a win at No. 1 doubles without conceding a point and Blythe Buntrock and Nikki Boyar picked up a 6-2 win at No. 3 to clinch the point for the Bronchos.

As the match shifted to singles play, Mae won in just 39 minutes, 6-0, 6-0 to give Central a 2-0 lead in the match.

Adel-Byanu Abidullina was the next one done at No. 3 singles. She won 6-2, 6-1 in 55 minutes to make it 3-0. Buntrock's 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles gave Central the match with a 4-0 lead.

Christine Canete won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 to make it 5-0 before a pair of three-set matches concluded the dual.

Tizia Brocks dropped the first set of her match at No. 5 singles before bouncing back for the three-set win (2-6, 7-6, 7-6). Grace Chadick did the same at No. 4 singles.

Central Oklahoma postponed its Friday match at Angelo State due to weather and will now return home for the weekend. UCO will now take another break before getting back to the action March 25 against longtime rival Northeastern State in Edmond.
