The Central Oklahoma men's golf team makes its 2022 debut Monday and Tuesday when the Bronchos travel to Humble, Texas for the Houston Classic.
Southern Nazarene is hosting the two-day, 54-hole tournament at the 6,945-yard, par-72 Golf Club of Houston. Fourteen teams are set to compete.
Making up UCO's five-man contingent will be junior Kyle Hickey, sophomores Evan Griffith and Caleb Kimmel and freshmen Bennett Baldwin and Liam Coughlin. Freshman Riley Harris will play as an individual medalist.
"The guys are looking forward to competing again," head coach Derrick Thompson said. "We ended the fall well and are hoping to carry that momentum into the spring."
The Bronchos played in five fall tournaments and indeed finished strong, coming in first and third in their last two events.
Hickey had the low scoring average in the fall at 72.5 and led UCO's closing surge with a title-winning effort in the FHSU Tiger Classic and a runner-up finish in the Holiday Inn Express Classic.
Griffith had a 73.0 average with top-30 finishes in all five tournaments and Kimmel was at 73.2 with four top-30s, capped by a third-place showing at the Holiday Inn Express Classic.
Couglin carded a 73.7 average behind a pair of top-25 finishes, while Bennett was at 75.1 and Harris 79.0.
It's the first of six spring tournaments for Central, which will host the Broncho Invitational Feb. 28-March 1 at Gaillardia Country Club in Oklahoma City.
