UCO Back on In Action In Topeka Saturday

TOPEKA, Kan. – The University of Central Oklahoma track & field team returns to competition this weekend with the Bronchos taking on all competition at Washburn's Ichabod Invitational.

Central Oklahoma has just two meets left in Indoor season before conference later this month and nationals next month.

UCO is sending half its squad to Washburn this weekend looking to improve their marks.

Dahsauni Lyday, a sophomore from Wagoner, Oklahoma, headlines the group. The thrower has hit an NCAA provisional qualifying mark twice this season. Both came in the shot put on back-to-back weeks last month. Lyday has thrown 13.70 meters and 13.71 meters. The provisional qualifying mark is 13.70. Lyday's 13.71-meter mark ranks second in the MIAA this season.

Lyday is scheduled to throw the shot this weekend. She'll also go at it in the weight throw. Eve Brennan and Tatum Robertson will both throw in both events alongside Lyday.

Luz Lugo-Ponce will also compete in the pole vault for Central this weekend. That quartet wraps up the field athletes for the Bronchos.

Central's distance group will be in action this weekend too.

Harlie Hanson and Shiloh Hutchinson will both run in the 3,000-meter race and the 1-mile race. Bethany Garrison, Arizona Hummingbird and Katie McCathern will join them in the mile. Garrison and McCathern are also scheduled to run in the 800-meter race.

Kaleigh Dyas and Ansley Scott will highlight the short distance runners for the Bronchos this weekend.

Dyas is scheduled to run in the 60-meter race and the 200-meter race. Scott will run in the 60, 200, and 400 meters. Scott owns UCO's best times in the 60 (7.76 seconds), the 200 (25.63), and the 400 (57.98).

Cali Dorman, Jacie Edwards, Jasmine Hopkins and Lydia Lawrence will all join Scott in the 400 meters. Those four will also join Scott and Dyas in the 200.

Central Oklahoma has one entry in the 4x400 relay race. Scott, Dorman, Edwards and Lawrence are scheduled to make up that team.

Jordan Chancellor is scheduled to run in the 600-yard race Saturday as well.

Central Oklahoma has this weekend's meet and one more next weekend at Missouri Southern before the postseason arrives. Central will visit Joplin next Saturday. The 2022 MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships are scheduled for Feb. 26-27 in Maryville, Missouri.
