UCO To Make First Road Trip To Denver

DENVER, Colo. – The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team is scheduled to play a three-game non-conference series at Metropolitan State University of Denver this weekend with the first game set for Friday at noon.

Central Oklahoma is 2-1 on the young season, sandwiching victories over Oklahoma Baptist and Southwestern Oklahoma State around a setback against Northern State.

MSU Denver is 1-2 this season. The Roadrunners lost both games of a doubleheader against Minot State (Mn.) before winning the third game of the series in extra innings.

Central Oklahoma scattered 25 hits in its first three games, posting a .231 team batting average.

Landen Wood led the way with six hits. He went 6-for-11 at the plate, coming off the bench in a pinch-hitting situation against OBU before starting against NSU and SWOSU. All of Wood's six hits were singles. He did have two runs batted in and also scored one run.

Clayton Peterson had three hits in three games, going 3-for-12 at the plate. He also had all singles with two RBIs and one run scored.

Noah Olson, Garrett Takamatsu, Austin Lambert, Kaleb Glass and Shane Nixon all had two hits this past weekend. Dave Janssen and Zac Freeman had one hit each.

Jaden Parsons, who will sit for a short period of time after aggravating an injury, had four hits in two games. He went 3-for-5 against OBU and was 1-for-1 against NSU before coming out of the game.

Parsons and Glass both had a double and a triple. Those four extra-base hits, along with a two-run home by Lambert and a grand slam by Takamatsu, were the only extra-base hits for the Bronchos on opening weekend. Central had 19 singles off 25 hits.

Defensively, Central Oklahoma allowed 21 runs (19 earned) over the first three games. The Bronchos have a 5.70 team ERA and opponents hit .232 against UCO.

Jacob Bailey (18.00), Chase Lorg (7.20) and Tucker Elliott (2.08) got starts for the Bronchos. The trio did tally 15 combined strikeouts. Lorg's six led the way while Bailey had five and Elliott fanned four.

Five Bronchos pitched at least one inning and did not surrender any earned runs.

Kyler Patterson (4.0 IP) struck out six, Beaux Bonvillain (2.1) struck out five, and Ethan Wayland (1.2) struck out four. Jase Farmer (2.0) struck out three and Owen Logan (1.0) struck out two.

Central is visiting Denver to repay a favor from 2020. MSU came to Edmond in February 2020 and the Bronchos swept that three-game series at Wendell Simmons Field. The 2020 season was canceled two weeks later and UCO couldn't make the trip last season due to the condensed schedules. The Bronchos lead the all-time series 3-1 against MSU Denver, with the Roadrunners picking up a win in 1994.

Chase Anderson and Bill Ralston lead MSU Denver's offense. Anderson is hitting .462 after three games and Ralston his hitting .400. The team has a .261 batting average. Reichle Arclilise is one of three starters for the Roadrunners. He threw a team-high six innings last weekend and struck out nine batters. MSU has a 6.52 team ERA after three games.

Central Oklahoma is scheduled to play a pair of in-state non-cons next week upon return from Denver. The Bronchos will visit East Central in Ada before hosting Southern Nazarene in Edmond next Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
