UCO Ready To Run in MIAA Championships

JOPLIN, Mo. – The University of Central Oklahoma cross country team races into the postseason this weekend with the 2022 MIAA Championships.

Missouri Southern State is hosting the 6k championship race Saturday, Nov. 5 at Tom Rutledge Course. The race is scheduled to begin at 11:15 a.m.

Central Oklahoma ran its first 6k race of the season two weeks ago in Edmond after running a 3-mile race to open the season and two 5k races in September.

UCO is sending eight competitors to Joplin for the championships.

True freshman Korie Kizarr has led the Bronchos this Fall. The Marlow, Oklahoma native was the first UCO runner across the finish line in the first, third and fourth races of the season. She was the second Broncho to cross the line in the second race – a 5k track in Joplin.

Kizarr ran Tom Rutledge Course in 19:47 in September.

Gracie Sanders, also a true freshman, has been on the heels of Kizarr all year. The Moore, Oklahoma native was second behind Kizarr in the first, third and fourth races of the season but she was the high finisher in Joplin two months ago.

Sanders ran the 5k at Tom Rutledge in 19:03, which also put her in the Top 20 at UCO. The time is the 17th fastest 5k in school history.

Seydi Blount improved her time in each of the first three races this season and sophomore from Newcastle, Oklahoma posted a 26:45 in her only 6k race of the season. Blount ran the 5k in Joplin in 21:14.

Noel Buckhaults also improved her time in each of the first three races of the season and posted a 26:42 in her first 6k in Edmond. Buckhaults ran a 22:02 in the 5k in Joplin.

Eden Haack did not race in the first competition of the season in Kansas but improved her 5k time by 39 seconds from the second race to the third race of the year. She also didn't compete in the 6k run in Edmond two weeks ago.

Giselle Zavaleta (26:56), Katie McCathern (28:17), and Kylee Smith (29:27) all competed in the 6k Broncho Classic in Edmond and will be on the course Saturday morning.

Following the 2022 MIAA Women's Cross Country Championship is the 2022 NCAA Division Women's Cross Country Championship, which is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 19 and will also be contested at Missouri Southern's Tom Rutledge Course.
