Bronchos Wins 10th Straight Game In Another Double Digit Rout

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – No. 22 Central Oklahoma has won 10 consecutive games by double digits, the latest coming Thursday night when UCO, on the road in the MIAA, whipped Central Missouri 82-60.

"The guys did a great job of playing together tonight," UCO head men's basketball coach Bob Hoffman said. "They got each other going and it was good to see. You're always grateful to get a win on the road."

Jaden Wells hit seven 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 26 points and Isaiah Wade scored 18 points while both grabbed five rebounds to lead the Bronchos. Preston Aymond also scored 12 points off the bench.

UCO, which entered the national rankings earlier this week, is now 14-2 on the season. The Bronchos are 9-1 in the MIAA. During the current 10-game win streak, Central has outscored the opposition by 179 points, or 17.9 points per game.

Central Oklahoma had its way on the offense Thursday. The Bronchos shot 56.4 percent from the floor, hitting 12 of 22 shots behind the 3-point line. UCO was also 8-for-11 from the free-throw line.

UCO held the lead for 39 minutes and 32 seconds of the game though Central Missouri did keep it close for most of the first-half.

The Bronchos scored the first seven points of the game. Wade had a dunk and a layup and Wells hit his first 3-pointer. Just 1:57 into the contest, it was 7-0 UCO. But that was the biggest the lead would be in the first half as Central Missouri kept it close. The Bronchos did get another seven-point lead, 18-11, later in the half. A pair of UCM's free-throws with 0.4 seconds left in the opening half made it 33-31.

The opening of the second half had a similar trend. Wells hit back-to-back threes to start the half giving a boost to the Bronchos. And again, UCM hit back-to-back threes to make it 42-39 with 14:43 to play in the second half.

Then the highest scoring team in the MIAA opened it up.

Central Oklahoma – in just 3:51 – put together a tidal wave of a run, scoring 17 straight points to put the game away.

Aymond and Wade hit back-to-back 3-pointers to start the run. Callen Haydon and Davon Richardson made layups for the next two scores and Wade did too after that for a 12-0 run. Camryn Givens hit a jumper to make it 14-0 then Wells finished it off with a big play. He hit a shot and was fouled in the act. His free-throw with 10:52 to play in the game made it 59-39 and capped off a 17-0 run in just 3:51.

Central Oklahoma held firm in the final 10 minutes, increasing the 20-point lead to the final 82-60. UCO has won six games by 20 points or more during its now 10-game win streak.

Wells was 9 of 12 overall Thursday night and the scorching, second-year freshman from Hurst, Texas was 7-for-9 from behind the 3-point line. It's the second time this season he's hit a career-high seven treys.

Wade was 7-for-14 and hit one 3-pointers of his own. He made three of Central's eight free-throws on the night and also had five rebounds. Aymond was 4-for-6 off the bench, including 2-for-2 from both behind the 3-point line and on the free-throw line.

Haydon had a strong all around game Thursday. The point guard scored eight points on three buckets and two free-throws and also had seven assists, six rebounds and three steals leading UCO along the way.

Richardson scored nine off the bench and Givens finished with five points. Both hit one 3-pointer. Seth Hurd also scored four points off the bench Thursday night.

The Bronchos are scheduled to play Lincoln this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in Jefferson City, Mo.
