Bronchos Picked Fourth In Men's Golf Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Sept. 7) – The Central Oklahoma men's golf team has been tabbed for a fourth-place finish in the 2021-22 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association race, according to the preseason poll released by the conference office Tuesday.

The Bronchos of first-year head coach Derrick Thompson earned 47 points in voting of the league's 10 head coaches, leaving them tie with Missouri Western. Defending champion Central Missouri drew eight first-place votes and ended with 72 points as the heavy favorite.

Washburn came in second in the poll, followed by Rogers State, UCO and MWSU, Northeastern State, Missouri Southern, Fort Hays State, Lincoln and Newman.

UCO has three players back from last year's team that had top-four finishes in four of eight tournaments, including the MIAA meet. Sophomores Evan Griffith and Caleb Kimmel both finished in the top 20 in the league tournament, while Ross Taylor also returns.

The Bronchos open the season Sept. 13-14 at the Washburn Invitational.
