Buchheit led Central Oklahoma with 11 tackles in Week 1 and also had a forced fumble.

"Dylan is a really smart player that knows where to be on the field so that he can make a play," UCO head football coach Nick Bobeck said. "He's a hard-hitting kid that just does a lot of stuff right. He's a great competitor too. I'm really happy for him that he is being honored for his efforts. He puts in a lot of work and it's always a good thing when that gets recognized."

Buchheit is from Moore, Oklahoma and starred at Moore High during his prep career. He played in 10 off 11 games for the Bronchos as a true freshman in 2019, making 23 tackles on the season. He also had a Week 11 interception at Emporia State. After last fall's season was canceled, Buchheit remains a sophomore in 2021.

Thursday night in Central's season opener, the safety was poised and ready to play right out of the gate. UCO started on defense and on the first play of the game it was Buchheit that made the tackle.

Central forced a three & out and then went down and scored to take a 7-0 lead over Missouri Western. Back on defense, it was more Buchheit.

On the second play of the second defensive drive for UCO, Buchheit went in for a big hit to clean up a play as another Central defender was making a tackle. He jarred the ball loose and UCO recovered the fumble.

Soon after it was 10-0 UCO and the Bronchos later led 24-7 in the first half before winning the 2021 opener 24-20.

This is the first time Buchheit has received the weekly honor from the MIAA. Central Oklahoma makes a trip to Emporia, Kansas in Week 2 to take on Emporia State in an MIAA matchup of 1-0 teams.
