Golfers Earn Academic Award

NORMAN, Okla. – The Golf Coaches Association of America announced Friday its 2020-21 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars and the University of Central Oklahoma had two student-athletes honored.

Peyton Knell and Evan Griffith were both named All-America Scholars.
 
Knell, who is now a two-time recipient after earning the honor in 2020, finished his senior season in 2021. The Quinton, Oklahoma native and Professional Golf Management major posted a 3.53 grade point average while also maintaining a 75.90 scoring average in seven of eight tournaments this past spring.
 
Griffith, a sophomore from Greenwood, Arkansas, is also in the PGM program at UCO. He posted a 3.49 GPA this past year to go with a 76.25 scoring average playing in 6 of 8 tourneys.
 
To be eligible for the award a student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically. In addition, they must participate in at least 40 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
