Four Bronchos Named All-Americans

TEMPE, Ariz. – The University of Central Oklahoma tennis team landed a handful of All-American selections following perhaps the best season in school history.

Adel-Byanu Abidullina and Mae Canete both earned ITA Singles All-American honors while Abidullina and Isabella Dunlap, and Canete and Paola Landin all earned ITA Doubles All-American honors.

Abidullina, a Singles All-American in 2019 and a Doubles All-American in 2020, earned both this season after another standout year. The Moscow, Russia native went 16-2 this season in singles play and earned MIAA Player of the Year for the second time in her career (2019). She was also 16-5 in doubles play alongside Dunlap. In the ITA's national rankings, Abidullina has reached No. 3 in the country as a singles player and is No. 2 in the ITA's doubles rankings.

Canete earned Singles All-American and Doubles All-American in this her freshman season at UCO. The Los Angeles, California native was unstoppable in her first collegiate season. She went 21-0 in Singles matches this year and earned MIAA Freshman of the Year. She was also 14-3 in doubles play alongside Landin. Canete finished the season ranked No. 5 in the country in Singles and No. 10 in the country in Doubles.

Dunlap added to her already stout resume another All-American nod. The Edmond, Oklahoma native was a Singles and Doubles All-American in her freshman season in 2019. She was also a Doubles All-American in 2020, and now again in 2021. With Abidullina she went 16-5 this season and finished the year ranked No. 2 in the country.

Landin continued that trend. She earned Doubles All-American honors in 2019 and 2020, and now can say the same about 2021. Going 14-3 at No. 2 Doubles with Canete, Landin finished the year ranked No. 10 in the country to earn her third All-American honors in as many years.

Central Oklahoma as a team finished the year ranked No. 3 in the country following a national semifinals finish at the NCAA Division II National Championship. UCO went 21-2 this season and won both the MIAA's regular season and postseason championships as well as the NCAA Central Regional Championship.
