UCO All Over Final ITA Rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Friday its final rankings of the 2020-21 season and the University of Central Oklahoma was well represented among the lists.

Central Oklahoma was ranked third in the country as a team in the final poll. The Bronchos were third in the final regular season rankings before their trip to nationals. UCO was an NCAA semifinalist this season. That finish and the third-place ranking are both the best in school history.

In the ITA Top 50 Singles rankings, Central had three student-athletes listed.

Adel-Byanu Abidullina is ranked third in the country, Mae Canete is ranked fifth in the country, and Isabella Dunlap is ranked 29th.

Abidullina went 16-2 this season, playing primarily at the No. 1 position in the lineup for the Bronchos. The two-time MIAA Player of the Year guided Central to a conference and regional championship.

Canete went 21-0 this season, crushing each and every opponent she faced in her first collegiate season. The freshman from L.A. posted a 17-0 mark at No. 2 singles this season and was also 4-0 in matches played at the No. 1 spot.

Dunlap posted a 15-3 record this season. The Edmond, Oklahoma native went 13-3 at No. 3 singles this season and picked up one win at each the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, helping the Bronchos to their first MIAA regular season title and their second consecutive MIAA postseason championship this season.

In the ITA's Top 25 Doubles rankings, UCO posted two more teams.

Abidullina and Dunlap as a pair registered a 16-5 record this season – all at the No. 1 position in the lineup for the Bronchos. The duo's No. 2 national ranking is the highest ranking for any doubles team in school history.

Canete, with teammate Paola Landin, posted a 14-3 record this season at the No. 2 position and checked in at No. 10 in the final rankings. The duo went a perfect 7-0 in the MIAA.

Central Oklahoma went 21-2 this season. The Bronchos won the MIAA regular season title for the first time since joining the league in 2012. UCO also won the MIAA postseason tournament championship for the second consecutive time, having also won in 2019.

The Bronchos then cruised to a Central Regional Championship, picking up a pair of wins to start the NCAA Tournament in Edmond. After a trip to Surprise, Arizona for the national finals, UCO picked up a quarterfinals win over Indiana (Pa.) before its season came to an end in the national semis to eventual champion Barry.

The Bronchos, guided by fifth-year head coach Jaron Maestas, have made the national tournament in each year of his tenure (minus the canceled 2020 season). UCO has a 78-22 record under his service in the last five seasons.
