Hazel Puempel Named D2CCA All-American

The NCAA Division II Conference Commissioner's Association announced Wednesday University of Central Oklahoma senior outfielder Hazel Puempel is a 2021 Honorable Mention All-American.

Puempel, a Tool, Texas native and current MBA student at Central, led the Bronchos to the national tournament this season. The left-handed slugger hit .349 this season in 48 games played. Puempel led UCO in batting average (.349), runs scored (32), hits (52), triples (four), walks (24), and stolen bases (nine). She also had eight homers and nine doubles, making 21 of her 52 hits for extra bases.

Puempel was named First Team All-MIAA earlier this month and was also named First Team All-Region from both the CCA and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Puempel is a two-time All-American. She earned the honor in 2019 as well following her junior season. Originally a senior in 2020, Puempel returned in 2021 after the NCAA granted an eligibility extension following the lost season due to the pandemic.

Puempel becomes the fourth player in UCO softball history to earn All-American honors twice.

Puempel ranks among UCO's all-time greats in a few categories. Her 17 doubles during the 2019 season ranks seventh on the Broncho single season Top 10 list. Her 54 RBIs during that season also ranks 10th on the UCO Top 10 list. For her career, she ranks fourth all-time in career batting average, hitting .388 over her two-year plus career.
