Central Oklahoma Stunned In Overtime

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team dropped a heartbreaker Friday night, falling to Central Missouri 3-2 in overtime.
 
The Bronchos outshot UCM 26-7 in the match, but a 95th minute goal by the visiting team ended the match.
 
"We played well but we just couldn't convert our chances," UCO head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "We had a chance to put way more points on the board but couldn't get it done. We have to just put this behind us. Those shots will start to go in if we keep playing like we did tonight."
 
Central Oklahoma trailed 2-0 in the match after first-half goals in the 22nd and 25th minutes by UCM. But the Bronchos, which outshot the Jennies from Warrensburg, Missouri 10-5 in the first half, came out firing even more in the second 45 minutes.
 
And it didn't take long to get one back.
 
In the 50th minute, sophomore midfielder Monika McGee found the ball with a little space in front of the net and put home her third goal of the spring to make it 2-1.
 
In the 68th minute, Kelsie Eason got her chance and also buried a shot to tie the game.
 
Central Oklahoma was frenzied and kept pushing for one more. The Bronchos took 16 shots in the second half.
 
After 90 minutes though, it was still tied 2-2 and the two squads took a short break and began overtime.
 
Central Oklahoma was close to several chances in the first couple of minutes of the extra period. But in the 95th minute, with not much room on the right side, Central Missouri chipped a shot over the UCO keeper and into the back of the net for the win.
 
Bailey Ledbetter played all 95 minutes in goal and made four saves.
 
Central Oklahoma will hit the road for another conference matchup Sunday. The Bronchos take on Missouri Southern Sunday at 2 p.m. in Joplin.
