UCO Closes Regular Season With Shutout Win

Bronchos Take a 1-0 Victory In Tahlequah

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Central Oklahoma wrapped up its regular season with a 1-0 shutout at Northeastern State Wednesday night.

Central Oklahoma finished the season 10-5-3 overall with a 7-2-3 record in the MIAA.

"Proud of the team for finishing tonight," UCO head women's soccer coach Amel Muhamedagic said. "We were fortunate to have already secured our spot in the playoffs but there's more to play for and the team was focused on that tonight."

Central Oklahoma will be the No. 4 seed in the MIAA Women's Soccer Championship, which begins Sunday with the quarterfinals on campus sites. UCO will host No. 5 seed Emporia State Sunday, Nov. 1 at Tom Thompson Field with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.

Wednesday night's shutout of the Riverhawks is the seventh of the season for the Bronchos. UCO redshirt freshman Maddie Ortwein earned her sixth solo shutout of the year. She played the 77 minutes of the seventh shutout.

On Wednesday night, Ortwein made three saves and saw five total shots by the NSU squad.

The game was tied 0-0 at halftime and for 20 more minutes into the second half. The Bronchos outshot NSU 8-3 in the first 45, then finally put on the back of the net for the game-winning score. It came from Sami Allen and assists were given to both Sheridan Ross and Kennedy Alexander.

Central Oklahoma eventually outshot NSU 14-5 and had a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal.

UCO has never missed the MIAA Women's Soccer Championships since joining the league in 2012. The Bronchos have reached the finals in each of the past two seasons and look this year to win the postseason tournament for the first time since 2018.

The four advancing teams from Sunday's quarterfinals round will head to Wichita, Kansas for the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 6 at Stryker Sports Complex. The championship match is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 8 in Wichita.
