Central Drops Game 2 With Washburn

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma baseball suffered a 6-4 setback in the second game of its three-game MIAA series with Washburn Saturday afternoon.

The Bronchos dropped to 11-9 overall with the loss and 7-7 in the MIAA.

"We couldn't get the ball in play," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "When we did get runners on, we couldn't get anything going. What hits we did get were good, but we need to string some more together and get the offense going."

Central held a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning. After a solo home run gave Washburn an early lead, Kyle Crowl responded with a two-run blast to straightaway center field to give the Bronchos an early lead. Philip Scott also scored on the play after drawing a walk before Crowl stepped up to the plate.

Crowl scored again late. After reaching on a throwing error, Garrett Takamatsu's single to center field made it 6-3. Ryan Harrel scored in the ninth to make it 6-4 but UCO couldn't finish off a late rally.

Central managed four hits in the game. Scott and Shane Nixon also got one hit each to add to Crowl's and Takamatsu's. Unfortunately for the Bronchos, UCO also left nine runners on base in the game.

Grant Larson got the start for Central Saturday and took the loss after throwing 5 2/3 innings and allowing five runs on 10 hits. Larson did strike out five batters.

Lawson Isaacs came on in relief of Larson in the sixth and allowed one run on two hits. Kyler Patterson threw 2/3 of an inning in the ninth and recorded one strikeout.
