KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The bracket for the 2021 MIAA Women's Tennis Championship was announced Sunday and the regular season champ University of Central Oklahoma is the No. 1 seed.
The six-team single elimination tournament will take place at Edmond Center Court April 30 and May 1.
As the No. 1 seed, Central Oklahoma got a first-round bye in the tournament and awaits the winner of the 4/5 matchup Friday afternoon. The Bronchos will play the winner of Missouri Western and Northeastern State at 4 p.m. Friday. Those two schools play at 9 a.m. Friday.
Central Oklahoma is ranked fourth in the country in the latest ITA national rankings. The Bronchos are 16-1 this season and take a 14-match win streak into the postseason. UCO won the MIAA regular season title for the first time since joining the league in 2012. The Bronchos went a perfect 8-0 in league play this season, outscoring all MIAA schools a combined 53-3.
The winners of Friday's 9 a.m. matches advance to the semifinals. The winners of Friday's 4 p.m. semis will meet in the MIAA Championship Saturday at 2 p.m.
Central Oklahoma won the most recent MIAA postseason tournament. That came in 2019 as last season's shutdown prevented a tournament from being held.
The winner of the MIAA Championship earns an automatic bid into the 2021 NCAA Division II Championship. Central Oklahoma is also hosting at Edmond Center Court the NCAA Central Regional Championship, with the winner of that tournament advancing to nationals in Florida next month.
