Bronchos Top PSU To Complete Sweep

EDMOND (Apri 24) – Kylee Lynch picked up her second pitching win of the day and Amelya Huggins had a big two-run double as Central Oklahoma clipped Pittsburg State 5-2 to complete a doubleheader sweep Saturday afternoon.

Lynch earned the victory in relief in a 3-2 first-game triumph before going the distance in the nightcap. The No. 16-ranked Bronchos improved to 29-9 overall and 18-4 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play in earning their 19th consecutive home win.

"We came out with two good wins and that's the most important thing," head coach Cody White said. "We didn't play our best, but did what we needed to do. There's still some things we need to clean up."

Lynch needed 108 pitches to polish off her ninth complete game of the season. The left-hander scattered six hits while walking three and striking out three in improving to 14-3.

Lynch got in trouble early after issuing two walks and hitting a batter in the first inning as the Gorillas loaded the bases with one out, but the second-year freshman got two straight groundouts to escape trouble.

UCO then took the lead in the bottom of the first. Tarin Dubler led off with an infield single, Hazel Puempel kept the inning alive with a two-out base hit through the left side and Lexy Dobson's double down the left field line plated Dubler for the game's first run.

The Bronchos turned five hits into three fourth-inning runs.

Taylor McKittrick opened the inning with a single to left field and Allie Eicher followed with a double off the wall in left-center before both scored on Huggins' double to right-center. Jacee Minter added a two-out RBI single later in the inning to make it a 4-0 cushion.

The Gorillas got back in the game with two runs in the top of the fifth, with UCO getting its final run in the sixth to arrange the final score.

Shayla Harper reached on a one-out infield single, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on an error following Puempel's infield hit.

All nine starters had at least one hit, with Puempel and Brighton Gilbert both going 2-for-3 to lead the way.
