Bronchos Finish Fourth In MIAA Tourney

MONKEY ISLAND, Okla. (April 20) – Brutal weather made for tough conditions in the final round of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Men's Golf Championships Tuesday, which ended with Central Oklahoma finishing in fourth place.

Temperatures in the mid-30s coupled with a strong north wind, snow and sleet forced play to be halted for nearly four hours midway through final-day play. The Bronchos closed with a 311 to finish the 54-hole event at the 7,188-yard, par-72 Shangri-La Golf Resort with a 911 total.

Central Missouri won the 10-team tourney with an 874 total, 10 shots ahead of runner-up Washburn. Rogers was third at 903, followed by UCO and Missouri Western (919).

Only 24 players in the 50-man field broke 80 on the final day, with Caleb Kimmel (75) and Peyton Knell (76) among those. Evan Griffith and Parker Rose both shot 80, while Ethan Galvan had an 81.

Kimmel opened play on No. 10 and made four consecutive pars before birdieing the par-4 14th, then was one-over the rest of nine in making the turn at even-par. The freshman had six pars and three bogeys on the front nine for the 39 that gave him a 75, which was the third-lowest score of the day.

Knell started his round on No. 6 and was three-over-par after two holes before reeling off 10 straight pars. The senior bogeyed No. 18, his 13th hole of the day, then finished with five more pars in carding a 76.

Knell ended up tied for 10th in the individual standings at 223. Griffith tied for 15th at 231 and Kimmel tied for 17th at 232.
