Central Blanks Rogers State

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team earned a 3-0 victory over Rogers State Thursday night at Tom Thompson Field.

The Bronchos are now 6-3-1 in their modified spring season and UCO is 3-1 in MIAA divisional play, putting Central in position for a top seed in the league's postseason tournament next weekend.

Brooke Moore scored an unassisted goal in the first half to give Central a lead it never relinquished, and Kelsie Eason scored twice in the second half to put the game away. Kaitlyn Asher stood in goal Thursday and made seven saves in keeping a clean sheet for the Bronchos.

Central outshot Rogers State 15-13 overall and both teams took seven shots on goal.

Moore scored in the 20th minute to give the Bronchos a 1-0 lead in the match and it stayed that way when the teams took their halftime break.

In the 55th minute, Eason took a pass from Lanie Whitehill and scored to give the Bronchos a 2-0 lead. In the 68th it was Ashton Johnson passing to Eason as the senior forward scored again and made it 3-0.

Central Oklahoma will play its final regular season match Sunday at Northeastern State. The Bronchos take on the Riverhawks at 1 p.m. Sunday in Tahlequah.

The MIAA postseason tournament will put the top seed in the Southeast Division against the second-place team in the Northwest Division and vice versa.
