No. 5 Central Oklahoma Hosts No. 19 Washburn

EDMOND – The fifth-ranked University of Central Oklahoma tennis team hosts 19th-ranked Washburn Friday at 2 p.m. in a crucial early season MIAA battle at Broncho Courts.

Central Oklahoma is 9-1 this season. Washburn is 9-0. Both teams are 2-0 in the MIAA.

UCO has won seven in a row after its only setback of the season, which came against then fourth-ranked and current No. 1 in the country, Indianapolis. The Bronchos have four wins against ranked opponents this season, beating Midwestern State twice, Flagler College and Angelo State.

Central Oklahoma is a combined 43-7 in singles competition this season and no player on the roster has lost more than two matches.

Adel-Byanu Abidullina has a 9-1 singles record this season and has also won seven in a row since her only loss of the season. Abidullina has a 6-1 record at the No. 1 spot in the lineup and also is 3-0 when swapping with the No. 2 position.

Mae Canete, a true freshman, is 9-0 this season. She's gone 6-0 at No. 2 and in swapping with Abidullina at the top spot, is also 3-0 at the No. 1 position.

Isabella Dunlap is 5-2, all at No. 3, Paola Landin is 7-1, all at No. 4, and Blythe Buntrock is 7-0, all at No. 5. Nikki Boyar is 6-2 this season and has played in 9 of 10 matches at the No. 6 position.

In doubles play, Central is a combined 19-6 through 10 duals.

Abidullina and Dunlap team up for the No. 1 spot and have a 7-1 record, Canete and Landin make up the second team and are 6-2, and Boyar and Buntrock are 6-3 at No. 3.

Central Oklahoma will also host Northwest Missouri State Saturday afternoon, wrapping up a two-match MIAA weekend at Broncho Courts beginning at 1 p.m.
