No. 8 UCO Travels To Texas

Bronchos Will Play Two Friday in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Central Oklahoma tennis team is set for a pair of matches Friday when the eighth-ranked Bronchos take on St. Mary's and Texas A&M Kingsville at SMU's Rohrbach Stadium Tennis Complex.

Central Oklahoma is 3-1 this season and coming off a third-place finish at the ITA Indoor National Championships last week. All four of UCO's matches in the young 2021 season have come against ranked opponents. The Bronchos have wins over the No. 10, No. 13, and No. 16 teams in the country. Neither St. Mary's or Kingsville are ranked.

UCO is evenly led by a host of its standout players.

Adel-Byanu Abidullina is 3-1 this season in singles play. Ranked 26th in the country individually, the All-American lefty has proved to be a solid player and a tough out at the top of the Broncho lineup.

Mae Canete is 3-0 this season with one match unfinished. The freshman phenom from L.A. has won six sets this season and has won four of those without surrendering a point.

Isabella Dunlap, an All-American in each of her first two years on campus, has one win this season, one setback, and two unfinished matches. She continues to bring the energy to the team and won't ever go down easy.

Paola Landin is 2-1 this season, all at the four-spot in the lineup, has continued her stellar career. She entered the season with 120 career wins and is already piling them up early in 2021.

After the top four, there's almost no drop off to the back of the lineup. Blythe Buntrock and Nikki Boyar are both tough outs and both have two wins in the early season.

Central Oklahoma is scheduled to host Cameron next weekend before another short road trip. The Bronchos will only have one home match in March but have four scheduled for April.
