ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (March 29) – Sydney Roberts overcame high winds to shoot a 76 in leading Central Oklahoma to the team lead after first-day play in the Central Regional Preview Monday.

Scores soared at the 5,941-yard, par-72 St. Joseph County Club as teams dealt with 30 mile per hour winds that featured gusts over 40 mph. The Bronchos finished at 322, giving them a six-shot lead over Northeastern State.

Southwestern Oklahoma is third in the 19-team field at 331, with Rogers State and Nebraska-Kearney tied for fourth at 335. Final-round play begins at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.

Only six of the 93 players in the field broke 80 and the average score for the day was 87.05.

Roberts' 76 has her tied for the individual lead, while Emma Shelley is tied for third after carding a 79. Susana Olivares is tied for eighth after shooting 81, while Madison O'Dell had an 86 and Emily Miller a 92.

"It was incredibly tough out there today and the round Sydney had was nothing short of amazing," head coach Michael Bond said. "It's a hard course on its own and the wind made it so much harder. We battled and put ourselves in a good position, but we have to come out tomorrow and play well."

Roberts started the round on No. 6 and bogeyed her second hole before getting on a roll, birdieing both par-3s on the back nine in going one-under over a 12-hole stretch. The senior standout was one-over through 16 holes before finishing double bogey-bogey for the 76 that has her tied with NSU's Yasmin Hang for the lead.

Shelley opened the day on No. 4 and started with four pars before going bogey-double bogey. She rebounded by playing the next five holes one-under to get back to plus-two for the day, but made five bogeys on her last seven holes in finishing with a 79.
