UCO 17th In Regional Preview

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (March 29) – High winds played havoc with first-round play at the Regional Preview Monday and Central Oklahoma's scores reflected that.

The Bronchos didn't have a player break 80 in carding a 327 at the 6,873-yard, par-71 Shoal Creek Golf Club that was buffeted by 30 mile per hour winds with gusts approaching 50 mph and are in 17th place.

Central Missouri leads the massive 26-team event with a 298, followed by Arkansas Tech (303) and Southern Arkansas and Missouri Western (304). Final-round play begins at 8 a.m. Monday.

"This is a tough golf course to begin with and the wind made it even harder," interim coach Chuck Bailey said. "Our guys didn't quit trying, but we just couldn't get much going today."

Parker Rose shot 80 to lead UCO, with Evan Griffith and Caleb Kimmel right behind with 81s. Peyton Knell and Ethan Galvan both shot 84.

Scoring average for the 146-play field was 81.62.

The Bronchos combined to make 10 double bogeys or worse while carding just five birdies.

Rose had two of those birdies on the front nine in making the turn at one-over 37 before coming back with a 43 after triple bogeying the par-4 18th hole.
