Bronchos Fall To PSU In Nightcap

EDMOND (March 27) – Central Oklahoma couldn't get untracked in a 10-3 second-game loss to Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association rival Pittsburg State Saturday evening at Wendell Simmons Field.

The Bronchos, who won the opener 8-2, managed seven hits in the loss and stranded 11 batters as UCO was unable to take advantage of seven walks. The Gorillas recorded 14 hits against six pitchers.

Central fell to 9-7 overall and 6-5 in the conference, while PSU moved to 11-6 and 8-6. The deciding game of the series is set for 1 p.m. Sunday.

"We played pretty well in the first game, but didn't do a very good job of following up on that," head coach John Martin said. "That's been our issue all spring, not being consistent. Tomorrow's another opportunity and hopefully we come out ready to play."

Central took a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning as Kyle Crowl had a two-out double and Garrett Takamatsu followed with a run-scoring single.

The Gorillas went ahead with two runs in the second, then added two more in the third, one in the fourth and three in the fifth to open up a big 8-1 advantage.

UCO wasted a chance to get back in the game in the fifth after loading the bases with no outs on Joe Mondragon's single and back-to-back walks to Crowl and Takamatsu, but the Bronchos only managed one run.

That came on Kaden Marshall's two-out walk and PSU got out of the inning when left fielder Brett Daley made a sliding catch on Brendan Ezell's hit down the line that appeared destined to score multiple runs.

The Gorillas pushed their lead to 10-2 with two more scores in the seventh.

UCO got a run back in the bottom of the seventh on Ryan Harrel's RBI fielder's choice that scored Crowl, who led off the inning with a walk. He went to second on Takamatsu's bloop single to left and took third on Scott's long fly out.

Takamatsu finished 3-for4 in the contest.
