Bronchos 12th In Florida Tourney

DURAN, Fla. (March 21) – Central Oklahoma struggled in first-day play Sunday at the Space Coast Collegiate Championship, finishing with an opening-round 305.

The Bronchos are 12th in the 15-team field, which Lynn leads with a 288. Wingate is second at 292, followed by Keiser (294) and Barry (295).

UCO begins second-round play at the 7,051-yard, par-72 Duran Golf Club at 9:30 a.m. Monday (Oklahoma time). The 54-hole tournament concludes Tuesday.

Jacob Lackey led the Bronchos in the opening round with a two-over-par 74, while Carson Tewell shot 75. Caleb Kimmel added a 76, Evan Griffith an 80 and Kylian Cavdar an 83.

UCO also has three individuals competing, with Peyton Knell shooting 78, Yannic Oppenheimer 80 and Joe Lemieux 83.

"We didn't have a very good day, but there's still a long ways to go," interim coach Chuck Bailey said. "Hopefully we can come out tomorrow and make up some ground."

Lackey had one bogey on the front nine in making the turn at 37, then got back to even-par with a birdie on the par-4 10th hole. He dropped strokes with bogeys on Nos. 14 and 17 to finish off the 74.

Tewell had a front-nine 36 after a birdie on the par-5 ninth hole and opened the back nine with five straight pars before triple bogeying the par-5 15th. He rebounded with a birdie on the next hole, then gave that back with a bogey on No. 17 before finishing with a par for his 75.
