Central Blanks Washburn

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team beat Washburn 2-0 Saturday afternoon in an MIAA spring season matchup at Tom Thompson Field.

The Bronchos, now 3-1 in their modified spring season, were stellar on defense all day long, keeping Washburn off the goal for the entire 90 minutes. Bailey Ledbetter picked up the win without making any saves.

Monika McGee and Taryn Kedzior both scored in the second half to put the finishing touches on the Central victory.

"We were a lot better on defense this week," UCO head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "I think we can still improve, but we played well today and got the win."

UCO outshot Washburn 5-2 in the first half, but neither team put a shot on goal. A third of the second half had gone by before things finally changed.

In the 62nd minute, McGee took a pass about 25 yards out and started to move to her right looking for an attacking teammate when the sophomore midfielder realized she had more than enough room to fire a shot off. McGee buried it bottom left and put Central Oklahoma up 1-0.

It seemed Central was set for the 1-0 win, but late in the 83rd minute, Kedzior got a great through pass from Lanie Whitehill and slotted home the second goal of the game.

Central Oklahoma ended up outshooting Washburn 17-3 on the afternoon. The 12-1 second-half advantage included six shots on goal for the Bronchos. McGee, Kedzior, and Emily Tincher each took a game-high four shots in the game and each also put two on goal.

UCO is off next weekend before traveling to Fort Hays State April 1.
