Outdoor Season Opens Friday

EMPORIA, Kan. – The University of Central Oklahoma track & field team will make its Outdoor season debut this weekend with the Emporia State Spring Invitational.

Central Oklahoma is sending a 28-person contingent to Emporia State for the season's first meet. The Bronchos will have competitors in almost every event scheduled for Saturday. The action begins Friday at 11 a.m. with field events and noon with track events.

"We are excited to get the outdoor season started," UCO head track & field coach Martha Brennan said. "It will be good to get out there and see where we are at and what we need to work on."

UCO will have a handful of throwers competing this weekend. Eve Brennan, Madelyn Caldwell, Tyleecia Delaney, Ellie Kincade, Dahsauni Lyday, Sierra Munoz, Dy'Mon Murdock, Tatum Robertson and Kayla South will all compete in at least one throwing event. Several of those will compete in two or three throwing events.

The Bronchos jumpers are a little short staffed this weekend. Delaney will join Alexis McGill and Skylar Standokes in the triple jump and the long jump.

Distance runners Arizona Hummingbird and Kelsie Begansky will lead a group of seven in a few events. And Bailey Christiansen and Jasmine Hopkins will lead a group of several sprinters on the track.

Central Oklahoma is scheduled to compete in six outdoor events this spring before the MIAA Championships in May. The Bronchos will return to Kansas next weekend for another event at ESU.
