UCO Heads To Texas Tourney

Central Oklahoma's No. 25-ranked women's golf team returns to the course Monday and Tuesday at the Midwestern State Invitational in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Thirty-six holes are on tap Monday at the Wichita Falls Country Club, beginning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start, and the 12-team tourney wraps up with 18 holes Tuesday.

Joining the Bronchos will be No. 23 and tournament host Midwestern State along with No. 13 West Texas A&M, Western New Mexico, Angelo State, Northwestern Oklahoma, Oklahoma Panhandle, Bethany, St. Mary's, Oklahoma Christian, Cameron and Southwestern Oklahoma.

UCO is coming off a championship effort in last week's Diffee Ford Lincoln Invitational that was held at KickingBird Golf Club in Edmond.

"We played well last week and hopefully we can continue to build on that momentum," said head coach Michael Bond, who has led the Bronchos to 28 tournament titles in 13 years at the helm. "It should be a great tournament. We've had some good practices and our girls are ready to go."

Making up UCO's five-player squad will be senior Sydney Roberts, junior Kinsley Hall, sophomore Madison O'Dell and freshman Emma Shelley and Susana Olivares. Freshman Mika Ramos will compete as an individual medalist.

Olivares leads the team with a 76.7 soring average and top-12 finishes in all three tournaments this spring. Shelley has a 78.2 average and captured the individual title at the Diffee Ford Lincoln Invitational after firing a final-round even-par 70.

O'Dell has two top-20 showings and a 79.3 average, while Roberts carries a 79.5 average and has placed in the top 15 twice this spring. Hall tied for 13th last week in her first tournament of the season.
