Bronchos Win In Texas After Setback In Norman

The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team got its spring season started this weekend with a pair of matches and the Bronchos split the games, earning one victory.

UCO lost to Oklahoma 6-0 in an exhibition match in Norman. The Bronchos then went to Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, Texas and won 1-0.

Central Oklahoma is playing a spring season following the cancellation of its tradition fall season in 2020. The Bronchos will play 13 games this spring, including eight against MIAA schools. The league is hosting a postseason tournament with each team getting at least one game and the top four schools competing in a postseason tournament.

UCO went to John Craine Field in Norman Friday night for an exhibition with the Sooners. OU came away with a 6-0 victory, scoring four goals in the first half.

Sunday, Central went to Midwestern State and bounced back from its previous game. Both teams took 11 shots in the game but the Bronchos outshot MSU 9-5 in the second half.

Emily Tincher scored her first career goal in the 59th minute and that was all the Bronchos needed in a 1-0 victory.

Kaitlyn Asher and Caroline Faulkner played 45 minutes each in goal. Asher made two saves and Faulkner made one as the Bronchos limited chances for the Mustangs all afternoon.

Central Oklahoma will continue play this weekend, hosting Oklahoma Christian at 7 p.m. Saturday at Tom Thompson Field.
