UCO Finishes Second After Final Round Canceled

CARROLLTON, Texas (Feb. 9) – Extreme cold forced the cancellation of the final round of the Southern Invitational Tuesday morning, leaving Central Oklahoma with a runner-up finish in the 2021 season-opener.

The Bronchos ended with a 36-hole total of 630 at the 5,893-yard, par-72 Indian Creek Golf Club (Creek Course), finishing just one stroke back of tournament host Central Missouri in the 10-team field.

It marked the 100th top-four tournament finish for UCO under 13th-year head coach Michael Bond.

"I'm disappointed we didn't get a chance to play, especially being just one shot behind, but the weather didn't cooperate" Bond said. "It was great to finally get a chance to play and we look forward to our next tournament."

Central was playing in its first tournament in nearly a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Bronchos had two individuals in the top 10, with second-year freshman Susana Olivares coming in fifth with a 154 total while rookie Mika Ramos tied for sixth at 157 in her first collegiate tournament. Sydney Roberts tied for 13th at 161.

UCO doesn't return to action until going to Cabot, Ark. For the Natural State Classic March 1-2.
