Central Cruises Past Cowley In Exhibition Tune Up

Bronchos Focused On ITA National Championship This Weekend

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma tennis team beat Cowley County 6-1 Sunday afternoon at Oak Tree. The Bronchos used the exhibition match as a tune up for this week's ITA Indoor national championship, which begins Friday at Edmond Center Court.

Central won two of three doubles Sunday to take the early point. Mae Canete and Paola Landin won 6-0 at No. 1 and Blythe Buntrock and Nikki Boyar won 6-3 at No. 2.

After the break, it was nearly all Central in singles play.

Isabella Dunlap was the first to finish, winning 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Canete followed right after that with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles. And Adel-Byanu Abidullina clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles to give Central Oklahoma a 4-0 lead in the match.

Buntrock also won 6-1, 6-1 and Landin won 6-4, 6-1 to give the Bronchos six points in the match. Boyar lost a third-set tiebreaker to give Cowley its only point of the day.

Central Oklahoma will be the No. 4 seed in the ITA Indoor national championships this week. The Bronchos will see fifth-seeded Flagler on Friday. The Bronchos finished seventh at last season's national championship. UCO is ranked No. 8 in the country in the latest ITA poll.
