Men's Golf

Bronchos Head To Texas

The Central Oklahoma men's golf team resumes the 2021 campaign Monday and Tuesday when the Bronchos travel to San Antonio, Texas for the St. Mary's Invitational.

Thirty-six holes are on tap Monday at Dominion Country Club, with the final 18 holes on Tuesday. Up to 13 teams are expected to compete and host St. Mary's is the defending champion.

UCO opened the season two weeks ago with a solid fourth-place finish in the Houston Classic in its first tournament in nearly a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Winter weather has prevented the Bronchos from getting any quality practice time since that event.

"It's been a challenge trying to get ready, but you have to overcome adversity," fifth-year head coach Josh Fosdick said. "We've gone to Topgolf and have done what we can, but obviously we haven't been able to prepare like as much as we like."

Making up Central's five-man contingent will be senior Peyton Knell, juniors Kylian Cavdar, Jacob Lackey and Yannic Oppenheimer and sophomore transfer Carson Tewell.

Tewell was impressive in his UCO debut at the Houston Classic, finishing in a tie for fifth with a one-over-par 217 total after closing with a three-under 69. Knell tied for 19th at 224, while Cavdar was at 226 and Oppenheimer and Lackey at 229.

"Dominion is a great course and we're looking forward to playing there," Fosdick said. "Carson's grandfather (Doug Tewell) won a senior tour event there, which is a cool thing for us."
