Hickey Wins Title, UCO Finishes Third

HAYS, Kan. (Oct. 19) – A clutch finish propelled Central Oklahoma's Kyle Hickey to the individual title in the FHSU Tiger Classic that concluded Tuesday, with the Bronchos placing third in the team race.

Hickey birdied the par-4 17th hole and then made a tough up-and-down par save on the par-3 18th to finish off a one-under-par round of 69. He ended the 54-hole tournament with a three-over 213 total to clip Rogers State's Luke Palmowski by one shot in the medalist race.

UCO closed with a 294 to finish with an 876 total at the 6,105-yard, par-70 Smoky Hills Country Club. Rogers State rallied to win the 15-team event at 866, one shot ahead of Central Missouri.

It was the last of five fall tournaments for the Bronchos, who won last week before following with this solid showing.

"Kyle played great and really showed a lot of toughness," head coach Derrick Thompson said. "We didn't have our best today, but this was still a good tournament for us. We'll take a lot of momentum into the off-season."

Liam Coughlin backed up Hickey's masterful round with a 72, while Evan Griffith shot 76, Bennett Baldwin 77 and Caleb Kimmel 80.

Hickey opened final-round play in a shotgun start on No. 1 and was two-under after birdies at the par-4 third and par-4 seventh holes. He dropped a stroke on No. 9 to go out in one-under 34.

The junior transfer for Iowa Western birded the par-3 11th to get back to two-under, but fell to even after bogeys on Nos. 14 and 16. Hickey responded with his clutch birdie-par finish to secure his first-ever collegiate win.

Coughlin made the last of three birdies on his final hole, the par-4 third, in carding his round of 72.
