Bronchos Ready For Final Fall Tourney

The Central Oklahoma men's golf squad wraps up their fall schedule Monday and Tuesday when the Bronchos participate in the Fort Hays State Tiger Classic in Hays, Kan.

First-round play gets underway at 8:40 a.m. Monday at the 6,105-yard, par-70 Smoky Hill County Club, with an afternoon round to follow. The 15-team, 54-tournament concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday.

The Bronchos are coming off a winning effort at last week's MWSU Holiday Inn Express Classic.

"The guys played really well last week and they're excited about getting back out there," first-year head coach Derrick Thompson said. "We've made a lot of progress this fall and want to finish strong."

Making up UCO's five-man contingent will be juniors Evan Griffith and Kyle Hickey, sophomore Caleb Kimmel and freshmen Bennett Baldwin and Liam Coughlin.

Griffith leads the Bronchos with a solid 72.45 scoring average and top-30 finishes in all four tournaments, including a pair of top-15 showings.

Kimmel is right behind with a 72.82 average and three top-30 placings, highlighted by a third-place finish last week when he finished with a three-under-par 139 total.

Coughlin tied for 14th last week and has a 73.25 average in three events, while Hickey is at 73.40 and Baldwin 74.62. Hickey shot four-under 138 last week as the tournament runner-up.
