Bronchos Finish Fourth In Arkansas

TOURNAMENT RESULTS

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (Oct. 11) – Susana Olivares and Emma Shelley had top-10 individual finishes to lead Central Oklahoma to a fourth-place showing in the Central Regional Preview that wrapped up Monday.

The Bronchos shot a final-round 304 to finish with a 599 total after two trips around the 5,948-yard, par-72 Hot Springs County Club. Central Missouri won the 19-team tournament at 593, followed by Arkansas Tech (595), Northeastern State (597) and UCO.

Olivares closed with a 75 and Shelley had a 77 as the two tied for eighth in the medalist standings with 147 totals. Madison O'Dell and Taylor Towers both shot 76, while Mika Ramos had an 81.

"Everybody competed hard, but we didn't play as well as we did yesterday," head coach Michael Bond said. "We just made a few too many mistakes. Overall it was a good tournament for us and I like the direction we're headed."

Olivares got off to a rough start with five bogeys and four pars on the front nine in shooting a 41. The sophomore standout got two of those strokes back with an eagle on the par-5 12th hole and followed with six straight pars to close with a two-under 34.

Shelley also made five bogeys in going out in five-over 41. She started the back nine with five straight pars before bogeying No. 15, but got that stroke back with a birdie on the par-4 17th in coming in with a 36.

Towers went out in three-over 39, then bogeyed No. 11 to fall to four-over. A birdie at the par-5 12th and bogey at the par-4 16th left her here and the sophomore finished with two pars for a back-nine 37.

O'Dell had an up-and-down front nine with three birdies, three pars and three bogeys in making the turn at even-par 36. The junior double bogeyed No. 11, got a shot back with a birdie on the par-5 12th and then bogeyed three of her last five holes for a back-nine 40.

The Bronchos finish their four-tournament fall schedule next week with a trip to Jekyll Island, Ga. For the Jekyll Island Invitational.
