Hummingbird, Sey Win At MIAA Challenge

Bronchos Finish Sixth In Team Standings

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Arizona Hummingbird won the 1-mile race for the second weekend in a row and Abena Sey also took first place in the high jump with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark to pace Central Oklahoma Saturday at Pittsburg State's MIAA Challenge.

Hummingbird won first place in the 1-mile run with a time of 5:15.46. Though it was three seconds slower than her time last week, she still earned her second victory in as many meets. Hummingbird, a senior from Wagnoner, Oklahoma, ran the mile in 5:12.38 to win first at the Northwest Open last Saturday.

Sey won the high jump Saturday with her 1.72-meter leap. The junior All-American and former national qualifier might very well be heading back to the NCAA Division II National Championships. The Spiro, Oklahoma native's mark cleared the NCAA's provisional qualifying mark. It was marginally short of the 1.75-meter automatic qualifying mark.

Sey also set a new personal record in the high jump. Last season, she hit 1.71 meters at Kansas State. That mark qualified her for nationals and Sey was en route there when the NCAA canceled the championships. Sey also competed in the triple jump and took fourth with an 11.02-meter leap.

Dahsuani Lyday, who won the shot put last week at the Northwest Open, finished second in the event Saturday at Pittsburg State. Lyday, a freshman from Wagoner, Oklahoma, threw 13.38 meters to claim second place – just 0.35 meters short of first.

Dy'Mon Murdock wasn't very far behind Lyday in the shot put. The sophomore from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma threw 12.32 meters and registered a fifth-place finish in the event.

Central Oklahoma tallied six top-five finishes Saturday on its way to taking sixth overall in the team standings. UCO also had 22 top-10 finishes in total.

The Bronchos have just two more meets on the schedule before the MIAA Championships the last weekend in February. Central will visit Northwest Missouri and Washburn over the next two weekends.
