Central Oklahoma Hosts Washburn In Saturday Matinee

Bronchos Have Won Six Of Last Seven Games

EDMONDThe University of Central Oklahoma women's basketball team is scheduled to host Washburn Saturday at 1:30 p.m. inside Hamilton Field House.

The university is continuing its temporary policy to not allow spectators at athletic events. The game will air live on The MIAA Network and KOKC 95.3 FM.

Central Oklahoma is 8-4 this season following a 77-70 win over Emporia State on Thursday night. That game, also at Hamilton Field House, was the sixth win for the Bronchos in their last seven games. The only loss in that stretch was at Emporia State.

UCO did also lose at Washburn all the way back in 2020. The Bronchos came up short, 80-70, in Topeka, Kansas on Dec. 3. UCO will look to avenge that loss and close the gap in the all-time series against Washburn, which leads 12-8 dating back to the first meeting in 1994.

Central, averaging 69.5 points per game this season, continues to be led on the offensive end by Kelsey Johnson. The senior forward from Washington, Oklahoma is averaging 20.5 points per game this season to go with 9.8 rebounds per game. Johnson had been the only player in the MIAA averaging double figures in both scoring and rebounding prior to Thursday's game against Emporia State. She only gathered four rebounds then to dip below the 10 per game mark. Johnson is still the second-leading rebounder in the conference with 117 boards through 12 games played.

The Bronchos had four players score in double figures Thursday night. Brooke Rayner posted 15 points, Caley Young 12, and Avery Allen 11.

Rayner is averaging 9.5 points per game this season through 11 games played. She is second on the team with 15 made 3-pointers and 3.3 rebounds per game, 2.5 assists per game, and 1.6 steals per game.

Young is averaging 6.5 points per game to go with 4.7 rebounds per game. The freshman has posted games with 12 and 13 rebounds in each of the last two Central home games.

Allen, who is among the league leaders in assists, is averaging 6.4 points per game. She's dished out a team-high 49 assists in 12 games. That 4.1 per game mark is fourth in the MIAA.

Jaci Littell continues to average eight points per game. She's at 8.3 through 12 games played. Littell leads the Bronchos with 16 made 3-pointers and is second on the team with 33 made free-throws. Littell also averages 3.6 rebounds per game and one steal per contest.

Central Oklahoma is shooting as a team 41.7 percent from the floor. The Bronchos shoot 29.5 percent from behind the arc, averaging 5.4 made 3-pointers per game. And UCO shoots 71.7 percent from the free-throw line, averaging 14.8 made free-throws per game.

Washburn comes to Edmond Saturday with a 6-6 record this season. The Ichabods average 62.1 points per game, shoot 38.9 percent from the floor, and 28.2 percent from behind the arc. Hunter Bently is the team's leading scorer at 15.2 points per game to go with 6.8 rebounds per game. Nuria Barrientos averages 11.0 points per game and is the team's leading rebounder at 8.9 boards per game.

Central Oklahoma is due for another quick road trip next week. The Bronchos will travel to Nebraska Kearney next Thursday before heading to Fort Hays State on Saturday.
